Reduces the oxygen content in the combustion chamber and lowers the combustion temperature. Lower combustion temperatures result in lower emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx). Exhaust gas recirculation can only be effective if it is precisely controlled. Depending on the model, the EGR valve can be pneumatically or electrically controlled. With pneumatic control, the required negative pressure (“control pressure”) is regulated by a pressure transducer. The pressure transducer is controlled by the engine control unit via the corresponding position. Depending on the duty cycle of the signal, the control pressure to actuate the EGR valve is set.
